Oshawa Generals News Release
Barrie, Ontario - The Barrie Colts defeated the Oshawa Generals by a score of 4-1 to give them a 2-0 lead in the second round series. The Generals' Scott Laughton got Oshawa on the board in the second, but three quick unanswered goals had them down 3-1 heading into the third. Laughton's goal was his 7th of the playoffs, and his league leading 13th point of the postseason. Daniel Altshuller was in net for the Generals, making 40 saves on 43 shots in the loss.
The second period was where most of the offence was generated, as the Generals got on the board first. After a quick rush up the ice, an errant pass from a Colts defender was picked off by Scott Laughton, who fired the puck glove side past Niederberger to open the scoring at 12:32 of the second period.
Daniel Altshuller was under fire early in the second, but continued his outstanding play from the first making big stops against the high-scoring Colts. Despite Altshuller's heroics, Barrie responded a minute later, as Mitchell Theoret scored his 6th of the playoffs to tie the game 1-1. The Colts forward was able to pounce on his own rebound, beating Altshuller blocker side. Theoret wasn't done there as he scored again at 16:01 for the 2-1 Colts lead. Andreas Athanasiou scored the third goal at 17:03 as he danced around the Generals' defenders to give the Colts a 3-1 lead entering the break.
Throughout the third, the two teams continued to press as the Generals looked to cut into the lead, while the Colts looked to put the game away. Altshuller was tested several times in the third but stopped all shots he faced.
Mitchell Theoret completed his hat-trick as he flipped the puck into an empty net for his 8th of the playoffs, insuring the Colts the 4-1 lead to give them a 2-0 series lead heading back to Oshawa.
Barrie outshot the Generals 44-30.
The series shifts to Oshawa on Sunday April 7th, as Game 3 is set to start at 6:05pm at the General Motors Centre. Fans are encouraged to wear red throughout the playoffs to cheer on the Generals.
