Flint Generals News Release
FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals of the United Hockey League found themselves in a tight defensive battle and Muskegon goaltender Sylvain Daigle may have been the difference as the Generals dropped at 3-2 decision to the Fury in front of 2,504 at Perani's Arena on Tuesday afternoon.
Flint fell behind in the first period on a strange goal by Fury right wing Scott Hollis, who sent the puck in front of the net from the corner, hitting a Generals' defenseman's skate and trickling in past goaltender Marco Emond for a 1-0 lead. Flint would tie it on a power play goal by left wing Jim Duhart (29) at 19:15.
In the second period, Muskegon struck twice within 28 seconds to take a 3-1 lead. Fury right wing Jason Lawmaster (16) took a pass from Colin Embley and rushed in to the Flint zone, cut toward the net and stuffed the puck past Emond for the 2-1 lead at 7:45. Moments later, a strange bounce of the glass at the Generals blue line resulted in a break for center Billy Collins (14) who with one hand, would swipe a rolling puck past Emond putting the Generals in a 3-1 deficit at 8:18.
It would stay that way until Generals' defenseman Mike Tobin (2) rifled a shot top shelf, stick side past Diagle as the Generals had just pulled Emond for the extra attacker to close the gap to 3-2. Flint pulled Emond once again for the extra attacker but could not get the game-tying goal.
Emond (13-11-4) suffered the loss despite stopping 26 of 29 shots. The Generals (27-26-11, 65 pts.) are in third place in the Central Division and tied for eighth place in the overall standings with the Quad City Mallards for the last playoff spot. Muskegon (40-15-8, 88 pts.) is first place in the Central Division and tied first place in the overall standings with the Adirondack Frostbite.
