HUNTSVILLE, ALA. (September 2, 2013) - Despite out-hitting the Huntsville Stars (59-79) Monday 8-6, the Jackson Generals (62-73) fell in the season finale, 4-3 at Joe Davis Stadium. After winning the first three games in the series, Jackson lost the final three and dropped the series, 3-2. The season series between the Generals and Stars concluded at 9-9. Jackson has not won a season-finale since 2010. The one-run game was the 48th played out of 135 games this season.

The Generals jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Monday afternoon, first thanks to a second inning single by John Hicks (1x4, RBI) that scored Ramon Morla (1x3, 2 R, BB). Jackson added a second run in the fourth frame on a sacrifice fly from Denny Almonte (1x3, HR, 2 RBI) that again plated Morla.

The Stars began their comeback and took control after a fifth inning Mike Walker solo homer and a two-run home run from Brock Kjeldgaard in the sixth. The Stars pushed their lead to 4-2 in the seventh as Micah Owings raced home on a wild pitch from Jackson reliever Dominic Leone.

The Generals didn't go down quietly in the top of the ninth as Almonte blasted a solo home run to center, trimming the deficit to 4-3, but that was as close as Jackson would get.

Jackson starter Cam Hobson (1-2) suffered the loss in his third start, allowing three runs (two home runs) on four hits, while walking two and striking out one. Leone allowed an unearned run in the eighth and Carson Smith added a perfect eighth inning. Smith finished his season tossing 16.2 scoreless innings. Huntsville reliever Frankie De La Cruz (2-4) picked up the win.

The Generals will open the 2014 season in 211 days on April 3, 2014 in Chattanooga. The game on Monday concluded the 16th season of baseball in Jackson, Tennessee.
