Generals Drop 4-3 Decision to Bombers in 10 Innings

The Victoria Generals fell to 0-3 on the season as they were defeated by the Brazos Valley Bombers 4-3 in Bryan. Brazos Valley knotted the game at 3-3 in the seventh inning before plating the winning run on a wild pitch in the tenth.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi RHP Kody Gibbs began the game on the mound for Victoria, turning in three frames while allowing two runs on two hits, two walks and four strikeouts. Murray State College LHP Ryan Dugas relieved him with two scoreless innings, allowing two hits, a walk and two strikeouts. Galveston College LHP RJ Patrick surrendered one run in two innings with two hits and two punchouts. Panola College RHP Sam Simmons rounded things out with an unearned run in two frames with three strikeouts.

The Generals mustered just three hits compared to the Bombers' eight. Western Oklahoma State OF Derek Cerda, Murray State College 1B Gage Gilchrist and UTRGV INF Kade York collected hits, while McNeese State 3B Easton Dowell scored twice and Western Oklahoma State OF Cristopher Munoz knocked in a run.

Victoria jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning after Dowell raced home on a passed ball, with Munoz being plated later in the frame. Brazos Valley leveled the score at 2-2 in the third before the Generals grabbed a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth. The Bombers tied things once again in the seventh, and the teams held each other in check through the ninth inning. Victoria was held scoreless in the top of the tenth, and Brazos Valley claimed a 4-3 win after a wild pitch in the home half of the inning.

Up next, the Generals return to Riverside Stadium for the first time this season as they take on the Baton Rouge Rougarou on Sunday, June 4, at 7:05 p.m. As the home opener, it is Free Ticket Night, presented by Texas Roadhouse, with free admission for all.
