The Saginaw Spirit faced off with the Oshawa Generals on Saturday night, wrapping up their second home game of the weekend falling to the Generals 5-2. The Saginaw Spirit also honored Jake Paterson before the game and recognized his newly acclaimed title as the all time wins leader in Spirit history.
The Oshawa Generals opened the scoring midway through the first period when Josh Brown picked up a pretty pass from Sam Harding, with Joe Manchurek adding the second assist. The Generals moved forward to take a 1-0 lead over the Spirit at 7:33, burying their only shot on net of the period against Saginaw's starting goaltender Nikita Serebryakov. Oshawa put two more tallies on the board with shots coming from Anthony Cirelli and Michael Dal Colle just before the end of the period. The Spirit took advantage of a powerplay and cut into the Generals lead making it a 3-1 game. Saginaw's Sean Callaghan snagged a beautiful pass and put one home from the blue line, with the help of Jimmy Lodge and Nick Moutrey at the 19:48 mark of the first period. The Spirit had 20 shots on Oshawa's starting goaltender Kenny Appleby, and the Generals finished off the period with only 7 shots on goal.
The Saginaw Spirit and Oshawa Generals found themselves in a deadlock for the first half of the second period, with both teams seeing multiple scoring opportunities. Oshawa silenced the Spirit crowd when they netted their fourth goal of night off the stick of Michael Turner at the 17:27 mark, putting the score to 4-1 Generals. Josh Brown and Mitchell Vande Sompel were credited with the assists on the play. Shortly after Oshawa's Anthony Cirelli added to the Generals lead over the Spirit at 18:53, to go up 5-1, with the help of Michael Dal Colle and Josh Sterk. Shots on goal after the second period favored Oshawa 9-8.
In to the third period Saginaw's Dylan Sadowy fired one into the net after he picked up a pass from Connor Brown and Kris Bennett midway through the period. The Spirit dug into the Generals lead, making it a 5-2 game at the 11:53 mark of the last 20 minutes of play. The Oshawa Generals took home the win against the Saginaw Spirit, with a final score of 5-2. Final shots on goal favored the Spirit 38-26.
The boys are back at the Dow Event Center on Friday, November 21st, when they take on the Niagara IceDogs. Puck is set to drop at 7:11 p.m.
