
Generals Come out of St. Catharines with 3-3 Tie

The Oshawa Generals travelled to St.Catharines Thursday night to take on the team they beat out in the first round of the 2013 OHL playoffs, the Niagara IceDogs.
Oshawa, coming off a 3-2 victory on Monday night against the Peterborough Petes came out flying. 2013 OHL Priority Selection 2nd round pick Sam Harding got things started by potting his first goal as a General just 4:33 into the 1st period, goal was assisted by Bradley Latour and Joe Manchurek. Just over 4 minutes later the Generals saw themselves with a 2-0 lead as rookie Joe Manchurek got his 1st goal of the evening and 2nd point of the night. Oshawa Generals goaltender Kenny Appleby was strong in the 1st frame stopping all 9 shots that he faced.
Niagara started the second period strong by scoring just 4:41 into the period from a goal by Matt Gillard. Gillard's goal was the only time the puck hit the back of the net during the second period for both teams. The second period saw both Niagara and Oshawa exchange some big hits and aggressive play which would lead to an exciting 3rd frame.
The 3rd period did not start the way the Gens had anticipated, just 2:02 into the 3rd period Niagara forward Matt Gillard tied the game by adding his second goal of the game which was assisted by Brad Col and Same Berg. Just over 9 minutes later, Niagara took the lead off the stick of Niagara assistant captain Mitchell Fitzmorris as he scored his second goal of the 2013 Pre-Season. Oshawa did not let that goal get to them, they kept throwing shots at Niagara goaltender Blake Richard. With just under 7 minutes remaining in the 3rd period, Niagara defenceman Sam Berg took a 2 minute hooking penalty sending the Generals to the power-play. Just 16 seconds into the man advantage Generals forward Bradley Latour tied the game with his 3rd goal of the Pre-Season with assists coming to Sam Harding and Chris Carlisle. Latour's goal was crucial as it was the last goal of the game and saw the Generals come out of St. Catharines with a 3-3 tie.
Kenny Appleby started in net and played the full sixty minutes for the Generals. The Generals outshot the IceDogs 31 to 18.
