Montgomery Biscuits News Release
JACKSON, Ten. - The Biscuits (50-32) squandered an early 3-0 lead and lost game two of their four-game set to the Jackson Generals (44-38), 10-3, on Monday night at The Ballpark at Jackson.
Montgomery came out swinging and stealing against Double-A debutante Cole Stapler (1-0), swiping four bases and scoring all three of their runs on a Daulton Varsho throwing error, an RBI-fielder's choice by Tristan Gray, and a beautifully-executed double steal of second and home by Lucius Fox and Brett Sullivan.
Ivan Pelaez (2-2) opened for the third time as a Biscuit, and looked good early, facing four batters and allowing just one hit and no runs in the first.
The second inning was a different story, however, as the Generals, who blew a 3-0 lead in the series opener, tagged the southpaw for seven runs in the same frame. RBI-singles from Dominic Miroglio, Galli Cribbs, Varsho, and Jamie Westbrook handed the Generals the lead for good, and crescendoed into Pavin Smith's three-run homer to right that capped off the seven-spot.
Jackson would add another run in the third off Riley O'Brien, this one on a Galli Cribbs RBI-triple that made it an 8-3 game. Smith would knock in two more of his five runs in the eighth with a two-run double off Blake Bivens.
The seven-run defeat was tied for the Biscuits' worst loss of the season, with the other one coming in an 8-1 defeat, also to the Generals, back at Riverwalk Stadium on May 26.
The Biscuits will try to rebound on Tuesday when Paul Campbell (3-0) takes on Matt Peacock (3-3) at 6:05 PM CT.
The Biscuits will return to Riverwalk Stadium for the start of a six-game series against the Tennessee Smokies on July 4 for an Independence Day Celebration featuring a Tank Top Giveaway presented by Alfa Insurance and MAX Fireworks.
The six-game homestand will also feature a Bicentennial Celebration featuring a Jersey Auction and MAX Fireworks on Friday, July 5; Beach Night and MAX Fireworks on Saturday, July 6; Lil' Crumbs Dress Like a Player Socks Giveaway on Sunday, July 7; and Camp Day on Tuesday, July 9.
