GARRETT HOME RUN COMPLETES DRAMATIC RALLY

Stone Garrett's three-run home run in the eighth inning on Sunday capped a frantic Jacksonville rally to lead the Jumbo Shrimp to a 6-4 victory over the Chattanooga Lookouts. Stuart Fairchild homered in the first inning for the Lookouts, who added to their lead on Mitch Nay's three-run shot in the fourth. The score remained 4-0 until the seventh inning. Adrian Nieto drilled a two-run dinger to halve the Chattanooga advantage. In the eighth, a Corey Bird RBI single pulled the Jumbo Shrimp within one. Garrett then blasted a three-run bomb to put Jacksonville up 6-4, their first lead of the game.

JUNE BUGGY

Jacksonville has won 10 of their last 14 games to cap the month of June with a 15-12 record - their first winning mark in June since 2014 and the first time the club finished more than one game above .500 in June since the 2009 campaign, when they went 17-11 (.607). In the process, the Jumbo Shrimp have won three consecutive sets for the first time since taking five straight series from August 10-30, 2017. Over the last 14 games, Jacksonville has outscored their opponents 55-41, an average of 3.9-2.9 per game.

STARTER KIT

In the first 20 games of the season, Jacksonville starting pitchers compiled a 3-13 record and 5.44 ERA over 91.0 innings. Jumbo Shrimp lid-lifters combined for 49 walks (4.8 BB/9), 89 strikeouts (8.8 K/9) and 91 hits allowed (9.0 H/9). Following that tough beginning though, the Jumbo Shrimp have seen some stellar starting pitching over the last 61 games. During this stretch, Jacksonville starters have combined for a 2.96 ERA (115 ER in 350.0 IP). Jumbo Shrimp starters have walked 99 (2.5 BB/9), fanned 309 (7.9 K/9) and yielded 286 hits (7.4 H/9).

CLOSE TALKERS

Throughout every level in the history of baseball, nearly every team expects to go about .500 in games decided by one or two runs. However, the Jumbo Shrimp have posted a combined 17-29 (.370) record in games determined by two runs or fewer. Interestingly, 15 of Jacksonville's last 19 games have been decided by two runs or fewer. The Jumbo Shrimp have won 10 of these 15 contests.

MILLER HIGH LIFE

Jacksonville outfielder Brian Miller has reached base at least once in 35 of his last 37 games, going 48-for-143 (.297/.383/.446) with nine doubles, one triple, 13 RBIs and 13 walks during this span. On the season, the Raleigh, N.C., native ranks fifth in the Southern League with 80 hits, tied for ninth in stolen bases with 13 and 10th in batting average at .288. A former North Carolina Tar Heel, Miller is pulling the ball at a career-high 46.8 percent clip while going the opposite way a career-low 21.5 percent of the time, the sixth-lowest such mark of the 131 Southern League hitters with at least 70 plate appearances on the year.

'PEN PALS

An unearned run in the 10th inning on Sunday in Montgomery halted the Jumbo Shrimp bullpen's scoreless innings streak at 14. Having said that, the last time a Jacksonville reliever yielded an earned run was on June 25 - a span of 18.2 frames. Over the last 17 games, Jumbo Shrimp relief pitchers have tossed 60.0 innings with just six runs, five earned, for a 0.75 ERA. During this 17-game span, the Jumbo Shrimp's bullpen has collectively surrendered just 28 hits (4.2 H/9) while whiffing 59 (8.9 K/9) against 19 walks (2.9 BB/9). A big part of the success for Jacksonville relief pitchers has been their ability to retire first batters; on the season, the club's bullpen has retired 75 percent of first batters faced, several points above the baseball-wide average that hovers around 70 percent.

BROADWAY JACKSONVILLE JOE

Jacksonville infielder Joe Dunand came into play on June 9 with a dormant season batting line of .209/.275/.262. However, in the 19 games since then, the Miami native is for 22-for-65 at the plate, slashing a robust .338/.403/.508 with eight doubles, one home run, five RBIs and six walks. A product of N.C. State, Dunand has dropped his strikeout percentage from 29.7 percent with Jacksonville in 2018 to 23.0 percent this year. However, his ground ball rate has shot up from 32.4 to 45.6 percent.

SHRIMP SKEWER

With Sunday's victory, Jacksonville is now 20-16 against the North Division this season. The club is only 16-29 when facing South Division squads.
