Flint Generals News Release
FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals finally got their first win of 2008 on Saturday night at the expense of the Muskegon Fury.
The Generals scored four even strength goals and fired 21 second period shots and went on to beat the Fury 4-1 at Perani Arena and Event Center. The victory was the Generals 16th of the season and 10th on home ice. However, they couldn't make up any ground on the Fort Wayne Komets on first place in the IHL Standings. The Komets beat Kalamazoo 5-2 to remain five points ahead of the Generals.
One of the story lines in the game was the specialty team play of the Generals and it was outstanding tonight limiting Muskegon to just one power play goal on five chances. The difference in the game was the opening period when the Generals killed off three consecutive Fury power plays and then scored with 21 seconds remaining in the period. Michael Beausoleil notched the marker on a slap shot from inside the blue line.
The second period was all Flint as they had 21 shots on goal and two goals off the stick of Greg Bullock who continued his solid play over the weekend. Bullock scored at 6:24 and then again at 16:22. Beausoleil, Mike Alexiou, Shawn Futers and Nick Tuzzolino had assists on the goals.
The Generals made it 4-0 early in the third period when Josef Fojtik scored from Shawn Fisher and Jonathan Duchesneau. The Fury rounded out the scoring with a goal late in the third to spoil the shutout bid of Eric Marvin, who was outstanding in net turning aside 18 of 19 shots.
Tonight's game is the first of three in a row between Muskegon and Flint and the two sides will face each other five times in seven days.
The two clubs meet tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon at 2 pm at LC Walker Arena. Fans can tune into the game on Unforgettable 1470 WFNT beginning with The Generals Pre-Game Report Protected by Teachout Security at 1:40 pm. Denis J. Puska has the play by play action at 2 pm.
