
Booras gives PrairieThunder shootout triumph

Jon Booras kept his shootout record perfect by netting a goal as the first shooter in a sudden-death shootout at Port Huron and Bloomington PrairieThunder goalie Loic Lacasse made it stand up for a 3-2 victory before 1,279 people at McMorras Areana on Saturday night in International Hockey League action.
The victory snapped a three-game losing streak and a six-game road skid for the PrairieThunder to move its record to 11-18-2-1 (25 points). Port Huron's record dipped to 17-16-0-1 (35 points).
Rookies Brent Clarke and Kyle McCullough had the PrairieThunder's first two goals. Clarke scored his first professional goal in 29 games with 7:35 remaining in the first period to give Bloomington the lead. The goal was assisted by Leo Thomas and Pascal Bedard.
Port Huron's Jamie Carroll tied the game with one second remaining in the second period on a power play with assists going to Jeff Zehr and Tad Lardner.
McCullough put Bloomington back on top with 15:39 left in the third period on a rebound shot from Rob Guinn. Donnie Margettie also had an assist on the score. It was McCullough's first goal in 14 games and his sixth of the season.
Port Huron sent the game into a five-minute overtime period when Jeff Markusen scored with 13:37 remaining in the third period. Jeremy Tucker and Mike Olynyk had the assists.
Both teams were unsuccessful on two shots in the overtime period. Booras then scored his ninth goal of the season for the win in the shootout. It was his second game-winning goal of the year.
Lacasse made 37 of 39 saves to raise his record to 5-8-1. Bloomington was outshot, 39-29, and was unsuccessful on five power plays.
The PrairieThunder meets Port Huron again today at 2 p.m. in Port Huron before returning home Wednesday to face league-leading Fort Wayne in a 7:05 p.m. International Hockey League game at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
