PORT HURON, Mich. -The Port Huron Icehawks fired 39 shots at Bloomington goalie Loic Lacasse on Saturday but couldn't beat the Prairie Thunder netminder in a 3-2 shootout loss at McMorran Arena.

The loss marked the first time Port Huron dropped a contest after regulation this season. The Icehawks are now 3-0 in overtime games and 2-1 in shootout action.

The game went into a best of three shootout after a five-minute overtime went scoreless. Both teams had two shots on goal in the overtime period.

Jamie Carroll, Tab Lardner, and Rich Hansen missed on their shootout attempts for Port Huron, while Bloomington's first shooter, Jon Booras, found the back of the net for what proved to be the game winner.

Bloomington's Brent Clarke brought the Prairie Thunder to an early 1-0 lead with a goal at the 12:25 mark in the first period.

The next thirty minutes went scoreless, until Port Huron found themselves with a two-man advantage with just 57 seconds left to play in the second period. After a scramble in front of the Bloomington net and several Icehawks shots on goal, Jamie Carroll connected on a shot from just outside the crease at the 19:59 mark. He was assisted by Jeff Zehr and Tab Lardner.

Bloomington's Kyle McCullough got a goal past goalie Marty Magers just over four minutes into the third period, but Joe Markusen scored two minutes later to bring the game back to a tie.

Port Huron outshot Bloomington 39-28 in the loss. They also outdid Bloomington on the power play and converted on one of four power advantages. Bloomington was 0-5 on the power play.

Despite the loss, the Icehawks gained a point in the International Hockey League standings and advanced to a third place tie with the Kalamazoo Wings. They hold a record of 17-16-0-1 and 35 points in the standings.

Port Huron will look for revenge tomorrow when they meet Bloomington again at McMorran Arena. Game time is 3 p.m.
