
Generals Bats Stay Hot With Second Straight Win

ZEBULON, NC - The Generals scored nine more runs Friday night, including seven in the first frame to take game three against Carolina 9-6 at Five County Stadium, in Zebulon, NC. The Generals run total over the past six games is up to 47 and notching 30 hits over the previous two games. Jackson leads the series 2-1 midway through the six-game set.
Brandon Haveman recorded his sixth straight multi-hit game, going 2-for-3, scoring two runs prior to leaving the game in the fifth inning. Haveman smashed into the centerfield wall and was removed from the game. Johermyn Chavez was 3-for-5, with a home run and two RBI's. Rich Poythress was 2-for-4 with three RBI's and Joe Dunigan was 2-for-5, driving in a run and scoring two, recording a pair of doubles. Carlos Triunfel was the fifth Generals with at least two hits, wrapping up the night 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Erasmo Ramirez (7-6) allowed four runs (three earned) over 6.1 innings to get his first victory since June 4th. Ramirez walked one and struck out five in the outing. Stephen Pryor made his Double-A debut and struck out two over 1.1 innings behind Ramirez. Matt Klinker (5-6) suffered the loss Friday with eight runs allowed on 11 hits in 4.1 innings.
In the Generals seven-run first inning, 12 batters came to the plate and Jackson pounded out nine hits. Johermyn Chavez, Joe Dunigan, Rich Poythress (2), Carlos Triunfel, James McOwen and Brandon Haveman had RBI's in the inning and it matched the most in a single inning this season. The Generals scored seven runs in an inning back on April 24th against Mobile at Pringles Park.
Johermyn Chavez opened the top of the second inning with a solo homer down the left field line that just stayed fair. The 11th homer of the season, and second of the week by Chavez made the score 8-0.
Carolina began to come back by scoring a run in the bottom of the fifth on a ground out by Jose Castro. The Mudcats pushed Ramirez from the game in the seventh inning by scoring three runs. Quinton Berry singled in a run and Dennis Phipps singled in two more to make the score 8-4.
The Generals added one final run in the top of the ninth inning as Rich Poythress plated Joe Dunigan with a single. Carolina drew a bit closer by receiving a 2-run homer in the bottom of the ninth against Edward Parades, but fell 9-6.
Saturday night the Generals continue their final series at Five County Stadium in Zebulon, NC against the Carolina Mudcats, with game time set for 5:15 PM CDT. RHP Tom Wilhelmsen (2-4, 5.36) makes the start for Jackson against RHP Brandon Hynick (0-1, 4.97) for Carolina. The game can be heard on Jackson's NewsTalk 101.5 FM and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com
