Dayton Gems News Release
FLINT, MI - The Dayton Gems are two for two in shootouts this season. Edgars Brancis scored the lone shootout goal as the Gems beat the Flint Generals 3-2 on Wednesday night at Perani Arena and Event Center. It was the Gems third win in their last four games.
The Gems rallied from 1-0 deficit in the third period and actually got a power play marker from Matt Auffrey to tie the contest 2-2 and send the game into overtime. Goaltender Ryan Mior was outstanding in goal coming up with some huge saves to keep his team in the game especially in the first two periods.
The Flint Generals scored the first goal of the game in the first five minutes to take a 1-0 advantage. Dayton killed off a 5-3 penalty situation midway through the first period that seemed to help increase their confidence in the game.
There was no scoring in the second period, but in the third Dayton pulled even when John Snowden scored from Jonathan Ornelas at 5:09. After Flint took the lead 2-1 just over two minutes later, the Gems battled hard and scored on the power play. Auffrey's wraparound attempt found the back of the net. Dayton outshot Flint 38-34 including 7-3 in overtime. The Gems were 1 for 3 on the power play while Flint was 0 for 3. The Gems are now tied for 2nd place in the IHL with a record of 5-4-2-0.
It was the Gem's first game of a five game road trip that continues on Friday in Bloomington to face the Prairie Thunder at US Cellular Coliseum. Fans can tune into the game at www.daytongems.com beginning with the pre-game show at 7:50 pm. The game is also available on the B2 Networks for just $7 but a high speed internet connection is required in order to view the game.
