The Dayton Gems believe that their biggestassists happen off the ice. The members of the team and staff are also members of the community. Being part of a team on and off the ice means commitment to youth, education, fundraising and joining in wherever we can help.
Gems Reach Out To Students
On November 17ththe Gems will head out on a special road trip to National Trails Middle School in New Paris as they host our outreach program. Our educational outreach program will have Gems players traveling to interact with students at their schools. Speaking about their goals, training, ambitions and being part of a team. Area students are given the chance to meet and learn about hockey and even ask the players questions. A short film will be a part of the program bringing the experience of the hockey to your school. Saint Jude's Research Hospital
Saint Jude's Research Hospital and the Dayton Gems are teaming up for the upcoming Give Thanks Walk. Visit their website at www.givethankswalk.organd search for the Dayton Gems to make a tax deductible contribution.On Saturday, November 21our mascot, Blade will meet you at 9am to register for the Give Thanks Walk at the Dayton Mall. This event will help the doctors and researchers at St. Jude's find lifesaving cures for desperately ill children in communities everywhere.st
Gems Speakers Bureau
Our speakers bureau is visiting community and civic groups all around the area. Our coach, John Marks and the coach of the original 1964 team, Warren Back are traveling to meet your group and share their experiences. Breakfast with Santa and Blade
December 5that Brookville's Westbrook Elementary Santa will have a new helper this year. The annual Breakfast with Santa will find our mascot, Blade, enjoying breakfast and helping Santa pass out the gifts. Canned goods will be collected and donated to the Brookville F.I.S.H. food pantry.
Fairborn Literacy Night
Fairborn literacy night is scheduled for December 17that the Fairborn Primary School. Several Dayton Gems Players and our mascot, Blade, will be on hand to read to youngsters from 6pm to 8pm.
Toys For Tots
During our December 18thGame at Hara Arena the Gems will team up with Santa and the U.S. Marine Corps to support their annual Toys for Tots drive.
Jerry's Kids and the Gems
The Muscular Dystrophy telethon was visited by our own coach, John Marks over labor day weekend. Coach presented a check on behalf of the Gems to help Jerry's kids. Throughout the weekend our boosters manned the phones and took pledges.
St. Vincent's Hotel Food Drive
During our preseason exhibition games the Gems offered fans the chance to join them in their charitable endeavors by contributing more than 2000 pounds of canned goods and non-perishable items. The food was loaded up and trucked to the St. Vincent DePaul Hotel in Downtown Dayton. The players filled shelf after shelf and helped to replenish the hotel's supplies. The fans and the players should be proud of their great job they accomplished together.
Pink in the Rink
Pink in the Rink - When the Gems played the Flint Generals on Sunday, October 25th,members of The Noble Circle and The American Cancer Society's task force were honored. Fans made over $300 in contributions to cancer research. Plans are in the works to continue the partnership with future fundraisers.
