
Gems Extinguish Blaze 3-2 in Shootout Saturday Night

Dayton, OH - The Dayton Gems overcame an early deficit to force extra frames for the second consecutive night to claim a hard fought 3-2 win in a shootout on Saturday night inside Hara Arena. Scoring for the Gems was Brett Lutes, Brandon Naurato and Tim Hartung (SO game winner).
Dayton overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Gems was down 2-0 after a power play goal by Bloomington's Aaron Dawson at 1:51 in the second period. Dayton tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Brandon Naurato at 11:44 in the third period.
Dayton was led by Brett Lutes, who finished with one goal and one assist. Lutes scored 4:56 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Bloomington. David Nimmo provided the assist. More assists for Dayton came via Nick Schneider, who had one.
Bloomington was led by Kyle Laughlin, who registered one goal and one assist. Laughlin scored 10:39 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Bloomington. Luke Popko picked up the assist. More assists for Bloomington came via Travis Granbois and Mark Znutas, who contributed one each.
Gems rookie netminder Dan Dunn made 41 saves for the Gems on 43 shots in his first start. Dayton incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Blaze's Zane Kalemba stopped 50 shots out of the 52 that he faced. Bloomington registered one goal on two power play opportunities.
Tim Hartung scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Dayton Gems picked up the extra point in a 3-2 (1-0 SO) win over the Bloomington Blaze.
With the shootout win, the Gems improve their season record to 17-24-10 and snap a three game winless skid.
The Gems return to action on Cassano's Italian Ice inside the historic Hara Arena next weekend for three straight games beginning on Friday, February 24 against the Missouri Mavericks.
