Gems Announce Christopher Walken Theme Night
November 4, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Dayton Gems News Release
Dayton, OH- The Dayton Gems announced today that next Friday's game on November 12th against the Arizona Sundogs at 7:30 p.m. will be known as Christopher Walken theme night. The theme will feature some unique game night experiences for fans that all relate to the Saturday Night Live icon and comedian/actor Christopher Walken.
The Gems have reached out to Christopher Walken's people in an attempt to get the actor himself to appear at the game, but they have not heard back from him on whether or not he will be able to attend as of this time. Stepping in for the real Christopher Walken will be a spot-on impersonator of Walken instead. The impersonator (Steve Payne) will be a special guest Public Address Announcer and all of the announcements during the game will sound as if Christopher Walken was actually in the Arena. The Gems will also change their intro song that night to "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult to tie into the memorable cowbell skit from Saturday Night Live.
In addition to the announcements and the playing of "Don't Fear the Reaper," the Gems will be handing out actual cowbells to the first 500 fans through the door for the game on Friday, November 12, at 7:30 p.m. against the Arizona Sundogs. Also keeping with the Walken theme throughout the night will be Christopher Walken related prizes for all of the Gems game night activities during media time outs and intermission entertainment. The prizes will feature DVD's of some of Walken's all-time greatest movies and even a Best of Saturday Night Live DVD as the grand prize.
