Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Central Hockey League today announced that Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs goaltender Brian Foster has been named the Sher-Wood CHL Goalie of the Month for October. Foster's award comes after the rookie started his professional career with a 3-0-0 record for the 'Bugs during the opening month of the season.
Foster, 23, went 3-0-0 for Bossier-Shreveport with a 1.95 goals-against average and .941 saves percentage during October to help the 'Bugs jump out to a 7-2-0 record entering November. The Florida Panthers draft pick returned from an early AHL call-up with Rochester on October 23 and made his professional debut that night in Texas, stopping 29 shots in a 4-2 win over the Brahmas.
The Pembroke, New Hampshire native then backstopped the Mudbugs to a 6-3 road victory over the Allen Americans last Tuesday with 34 saves in his second pro start. Most recently Foster helped the 'Bugs to a 2-1 shootout win over Rio Grande Valley, turning aside 32 shots during regulation and overtime and stopping four of five Killer Bees in the shootout as Bossier-Shreveport won its third straight.
Foster is in his first pro season out of the University of New Hampshire, where he served as the full-time starting goaltender over the past two seasons. The 6-2, 175-pound netminder was selected by Florida in the fifth round of the 2005 NHL entry draft and is currently on contract with the Panthers. He will receive a special gift from Sher-Wood and the CHL to recognize his accomplishment.
The Mudbugs are on the road in Mississippi, where they will face the RiverKings tomorrow before returning home to host the Allen Americans at 7:05 Saturday night at the CenturyTel Center.
