Geekie and Savoie Invited to Canada's National Junior Team Summer Development Camp

The Winnipeg ICE are proud to announce forwards Conor Geekie and Matthew Savoie have been invited to attend Canada's National Junior Team summer development camp while forward Zach Benson has been invited to attend Canada's National Men's Under-18 Team summer development camp.

The National Junior Team development camp is scheduled for July 23-27 at the Markin McPhail Centre at WinSport's Canada Olympic Park in Calgary.

Players selected from this camp will represent Team Canada in the 2023 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship December 26. 2022 to January 5, 2023 in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Moncton, New Brunswick.

Geekie, from Strathclair, Manitoba, set new WHL career highs this past season in games played (63), goals (24), assists (46), points (70), plus minus (+46) and penalty minutes (49). He also played in all 15 playoff games registering 11 points (3 goals and 8 assists). Geekie was named the East Division's Humanitarian of the Year at the conclusion of the regular season. He is currently ranked #5 among North American Skaters by NHL Central Scouting for the 2022 NHL Draft.

Savoie, from St. Albert, Alberta, set new WHL career highs this past season in games played (65), goals (35), assists (55), points (90), plus minus (+54) and penalty minutes (32). Savoie was named a WHL 1st Team All Star forward at the conclusion of the regular season. He is currently ranked #4 among North American Skaters by NHL Central Scouting for the 2022 NHL Draft.

The Under 18 development camp is scheduled for July 20-23 at the Markin McPhail Centre at WinSport's Canada Olympic Park in Calgary.

Players selected from this camp will represent Team Canada in the 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup July 31-August 6 in Red Deer at Peavey Mart Centrium, home of the WHL's Red Deer Rebels.

Benson, from Chilliwack, British Columbia, set new WHL career highs this past season in games played (58), goals (25), assists (38), points (63), plus minus (+40) and penalty minutes (28). He also played in all 15 playoff games registering 23 points (9 goals and 14 assists).
