Gauthier Invited to Hockey Canada's National Junior Team Sport Chek Summer Development Camp

PRINCE GEORGE, BC - The Prince George Cougars are pleased to announce goaltender Taylor Gauthier ('01) has been invited to Hockey Canada's National Junior Team Sport Chek Summer Development Camp, set for July 27th-31st.

41 players will attend the five-day virtual camp and participate in a variety of sessions with a focus on player development through online education.

"Taylor has developed into a premier goaltender in our league and has a proven track record with Hockey Canada," said Cougars' General Manager & Head Coach Mark Lamb. "His invitation is a reflection on the hard-work he's put in this past season."

Gauthier, 19, is one of five goaltenders invited to the virtual camp. The Calgary, AB product had a career year in the 2019-20 season. Gauthier was first in the WHL in minutes played (2870), tied for first in games played (50), second in shots (1677), and second in saves (1537). He set career highs in wins (16), goals-against average (2.93), and save percentage (.917). He also had two shutouts. The 6'2, 190-pound netminder was named the WHL Eli Wilson Goaltender of the Week, for the week ending January 26th. In 137 career regular season games, Gauthier has 39 wins and a .903 save percentage. Gauthier is ranked 19th among North American Goaltenders by NHL Central Scouting, for the 2020 NHL Draft.

Gauthier is quite familiar with Hockey Canada's Program of Excellence, having played at the 2019 IIHF World Under 18 Hockey Championship, the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, and the 2017 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge. Gauthier won a gold medal with the men's national team at the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Edmonton, AB.

"We're excited to begin preparations for the 2021 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship with this group of 41 players and our full staff at our online camp, as we believe we have a good mix of veteran leadership and young talent that are eager to represent Canada during the holiday season," said Scott Salmond, Senior Vice-President of national teams for Hockey Canada.
