Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

CALGARY, AB- Shortly after 5 p.m. on Friday, former Dubuque Fighting Saint Johnny Gaudreau won the Hobey Baker Award as college hockey's top player. By 6 p.m. the star forward was no longer a college hockey player. The Calgary Flames, the team that drafted Gaudreau in the 4 th round in 2011, have announced they signed Gaudreau to an entry-level contract.

The Flames final regular season game is Sunday at Vancouver, and Gaudreau is expected to join the team and possibly make his NHL debut that evening. If he does, Gaudreau would become the eighth Fighting Saint to advance to play in the NHL in the team's history. Gaudreau would be the second Fighting Saint since the club's return to the USHL in 2010 to play in the NHL. Zemgus Girgensons, Gaudreau's teammate in 2010-2011, is currently a member of the Buffalo Sabres.

Gaudreau will wear #53 for the Flames.
