JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Orlando Rays right-hander Chad Gaudin has thrown a perfect game against the Jacksonville Suns, retiring all 21 batters in a 1-0 Rays victory in game one Tuesday at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
Gaudin, 20, made his first Southern League start and struck out nine, including Suns outfielder Reggie Abercrombie to end the game.
It is the second perfect game in the 40 year history of the Southern League. Charles Swanson of the Montgomery Rebels completed a 27-out, nine-inning perfect game in a 3-0 win over Savannah on August 14, 1970.
