Mobile BayBears News Release
Mobile, Ala. â The Huntsville Stars had former major League pitcher Doug Davis on the mound to start game two of the series with the BayBears. The left-hander proved to be too much as the Stars defeated the BayBears 6-2, in front of 2,293 fans at Hank Aaron Stadium Tuesday night.
The BayBears jumped out in front, scoring a single run in the first, however. After two were out Jake Gautreau doubled home Rico Washington for the game's first run. Mobile left the bases loaded, but led after one, 1-0.
That would be the only lead they would have on the night. Huntsville tied the score in the second and had a big three-run fourth against Mobile's starter, Duncan McAdoo (3-6). The right-hander took the loss as he allowed four runs on eight hits in his six innings of work.
The BayBears added the final run in the bottom of the fifth without the benefit of a hit. Freddy Guzman led off with a walk and went to second on a wild pitch. Washington then hit a towering fly ball to center and as Guzman slid into third, the throw from Dave Krynzel got away from the third baseman and went into the dugout allowing Guzman to cross the plate.
Huntsville added two more runs in the top of the seventh on a two-run homerun by Cory Hart. That made the final 6-2. With the loss, combined with Birmingham's win over Chattanooga, the BayBears and Stars are now tied for second place, one-half game behind the Barons.
The BayBears and Barons will play game three of their series Wednesday night at 7:05. LHP Roger Deago (6-5; 3.95) will get the start on the mound for Mobile against Huntsville's Pedro Liriano (5-10; 3.08).
