Gateway Mashes Three Homers in Win

Sauget, IL - Gateway wins the season and series finale against Schaumburg 10-9 with the help of three home runs.

Ty Moore drove in Alonzo Jones in the bottom of the first to give Gateway a 1-0 lead.

The Grizzlies scored six in the bottom of the second highlighted by a two-run homer from Justin Jones that just stayed fair down the left field line. The Grizzlies led 7-0 through two innings.

Schaumburg picked up five runs in the third with a three-run home run from Quincy Nieporte, his 15th of the year, to pull the Boomers within two at 7-5.

Angelo Gumbs made it a one-run game with an RBI groundout that scored Nieporte, making the score 7-6.

Connor Owings blasted a two-run homer in the sixth inning that gave Gateway a 9-6 lead.

Another Jack Harris home run, his fifth in six home games in his Grizzlies career, gave Gateway a four-run cushion at 10-6.

Braxton Davidson made things interesting in the ninth with a three-run homer, his fourth of the series, that pulled the boomers back within one at 10-9.

Carlos Vega was able to strikeout the side in the ninth to shut the door on the Boomers.

The Grizzlies will welcome the Southern Illinois Miners Friday night with first pitch scheduled for 6:45 CT.
