Gartrell Hits 24th Home Run to Help Give Knights the Series Win

FORT MILL, S.C. - The Charlotte Knights rode a great pitching performance from starter Carlos Torres to a 3-2 win over the Toledo Mud Hens at Knights Stadium. The win gave the Knights the series win as they went 6-2 on the home stand.
Torres earned his 8th win of the season pitching 7.0 innings allowing no runs off of just three hits. It was Torres' first win since making a spot start for the White Sox on August 3rd. The right hander struck out four and walked one. Torres set a new Knights season high by pitching 13.1 consecutive scoreless innings.
The Knights scored one run in each of the first three innings of the game. They got on the board in the first thanks to a Mark Teahen sacrifice fly that scored Buck Coats.
The Knights were able to load the bases with one out in the 2nd inning but could only get one run in on a Donny Lucy ground out that scored Jeremy Reed. In the third inning, Stefan Gartrell hit his 24th home run of the season to make it 3-0 in favor of Charlotte. The 24 home runs by Gartrell is his new single season best.
Clevelan Santeliz earned a shaky save after giving up a two run homer to Toledo's Chris Wells in the 9th inning. The win puts the Knights back at .500 with a 58-58 record.
The Knights will begin a three game series at the Durham Bulls on Tuesday. The Bulls will start RHP Brain Baker (7-2, 3.56 ERA) and the Knights will counter with RHP Lucas Harrell (9-9, 4.46 ERA).
