RICHMOND, VA--Dan Garcia's bases-clearing triple in the top of the ninth provided the difference as the visiting Norfolk Tides knocked off the Richmond Braves 5-2 at The Diamond Wednesday.

Garcia collected a double and triple on the night, driving in three runs for Norfolk, who swept the brief home-and-home series with Richmond. The Tides' second baseman scored the game's first run in the third inning, advancing from second base to home on a Tsuyoshi Shinjo single. After Richmond knotted the game at 1-1 on a Ryan Langerhans' single in the fourth, Norfolk went up 2-1 when Braves shortstop Stubby Clapp made a throwing error allowing Kenny Kelly to score from third. A Mike Hubbard sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh tied the game again before Garcia won it with his ninth inning heroics.

Edwin Almonte (3-7) earned the victory for the Tides with 1.2 innings of hitless relief. Orber Moreno worked the ninth for his 12th save.

Joe Dawley (3-5) took the loss for the Braves, allowing three runs on two hits and three walks in 0.2 innings. Richmond starter Sam McConnell fired seven innings of six-hit baseball, but did not factor into the decision.

The Braves travel to Durham Thursday for a two-game series with the Bulls. Thursday's series opener is slated for a 7:00 p.m. first pitch with the radio broadcast on WXGI AM 950 beginning at 6:45 p.m.
