Rio Grande Valley Dorados News Release
HIDALGO, TX: May 26, 2005 â The Rio Grande Valley Dorados made some changes today with their roster as they prepare for Saturday's arenafootball2 tilt in Albany, Georgia against the South Georgia Wildcats by activating lineman Julius Gant from the "Exempt to Other League" list. To make room for Gant, the Dorados placed lineman Wil Goff on recallable re-assignment and transferred Pierre Thomas from the short-term injured reserve list to the long-term injured reserve list.
Gant rejoins the squad in time to make the trip with the team to his hometown state to face the Wildcats. A native of Atlanta, Gant played in the Dorados first two games of the season and then left the team to pursue some workout invitations from the NFL level. The 6'4 305-pound product of Middle Tennessee State University entertained some offers at the NFL and Canadian Football League (CFL) level, but did not land a contract with any teams. Gant registered a tackle for a loss in the Dorados contest on April 16th in Fort Myers, Florida against the Florida Firecats for his only tackle of the season.
Goff played in six games with the Dorados. The rookie lineman from Redlands, California registered two tackles and a break-up in the six contests. Thomas was placed on the injured reserve list after suffering an injury on May 7th against San Diego and has only appeared in two games this season with the Dorados.
The Dorados have three Georgia natives on their roster, as they travel to Albany, Georgia this week. Marquis Floyd (Monroe, GA - Univ. West Georgia), Carl Bucknor (Augusta, GA) and Gant (Atlanta, GA) are the Georgians on the Dorados roster. Media members seeking an interview with Gant and/or Dorados Head Coach Kevin Guy are encouraged to contact Chris Due with the Dorados at 956-843-5656.
The Dorados next home game will be June 11th, as the Dorados host the Tulsa Talons at Chase Field inside the Dodge Arena. Individual tickets for the game and all other home games are already on sale. Additional info can also be found by visiting the Dorados online at www.doradosfootball.com.
