Central Valley Coyotes News Release

FRESNO – The Central Valley Coyotes have been assigned offensive/defensive lineman Kevin Carroll, and wide receiver/defensive back Tierre Sams, a former Fresno State Bulldog, head coach Fred Biletnikoff Jr. announced today.

"With all of the injuries we have experienced in the last couple of weeks, it is good to bring in some talent like this," head coach Fred Biletnikoff Jr. said. "Carroll brings a great deal of experience while Sams is a guy that has proven talent in all levels of football."

Carroll (6-4, 285 pounds) has two years of af2 experience with the Bakersfield Blitz (2003-04). Prior to joining the Blitz, Carroll spent six seasons in the Arena Football League with five different teams (Cincinnati, Las Vegas, Anaheim, Grand Rapids and Los Angeles). In 1996, Carroll recorded 36 tackles, eight touchdowns and five sacks with the Anaheim Piranhas.

Before playing arena football, Carroll was a standout lineman at Knoxville (Tenn.) College.

Sams (5-10, 180 pounds), who most recently played cornerback for the Ottawa Renegades of the Canadian Football League the last two seasons, spent the spring of 2003 playing for the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe. As a cover specialist, he had 13 defensive tackles and four tackles on special teams while playing for the Germany-based squad.

Sams began his professional football career in April of 2002 when he signed with the Cincinnati Bengals. He played all four pre-season games with Cincinnati last year before being waived on Sept. 1, 2002.

Graced with exceptional speed, the native of Fresno competed for the Fresno State track and field team in the 100-meters and the 4x100-meter relay. In front of professional football scouts, Sams recorded a 4.34-second 40-yard dash.

During four years at Fresno State, Sams had seven interceptions in 47 games. He recorded 67 tackles, two interceptions and led the team with 10 passes defended during his senior year in 2001.

Born on September 30, 1977, Sams prepped at Edison (Fresno, Calif.) High.

The Coyotes also activated fullback/linebacker Terrell Colbert (6-3, 255 pounds) from suspension as he will suit up for the first time this week to help fill the void of fullback/linebacker Vai Notoa, who was placed on short-term injured reserve (knee).

The Coyotes head to San Diego to take on the San Diego Riptide on Saturday, May 28. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. and the game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1430 AM.
