Bakersfield Blitz News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. - When the Bakersfield Blitz return to the Rabobank Arena after a two-game road trip, they're hoping to hear the roar of the crowd - and the roar of the cars. The First Annual Bakersfield Blitz Car Show, presented by the El Camino Club of Bakersfield, takes place on Friday, June 10th prior to the Blitz home game against the Arkansas Twisters. The car show is sponsored by Year One, The El Camino Store, RL & Associates Inc., Engine Pros Inc., Brock's Trailers, Cottman Transmission, Kragen Auto Parts, Xpress Lube, San Joaquin Tire & Wheels and T-Mobile.
There will be five divisions of cars: El Caminos, Trucks, Street Rods, Classics and Muscle Cars. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded for each category. The five division winners will get to bring their cars out onto the turf during halftime to let the crowd decide the big winner. A trophy will be handed to the Grand Prize winner.
There are two entry class fees and each car entry comes with four tickets to the Blitz vs. Twisters game that night. The $65 package covers one car entry and four End Zone seats and the $40 package includes one car and four Terrace seats. The show will take place from 1:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the N Street parking lot behind the Rabobank Arena. Registration is from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and the deadline to sign up is Friday, June 3rd. Contact the Blitz sales office at 716-BLITZ (2548) for more information or to register. Admission to the show to check out the cars is free with the purchase of a ticket to the Blitz game that night, and food and drinks will be available at the show.
Also that night, the first 2,000 fans 12 and under will get a free Blitz Autograph Book, courtesy of Bright House Networks and KUZZ 107.9.
King Suspended, Lineman Added
The Blitz will be without OL/DL Shawn King this weekend in Tulsa. The veteran of five NFL seasons and two AFL campaigns was suspended one game after being ejected in the fourth quarter of last Friday night's victory over the rival San Diego Riptide. The ejection followed King's second unsportsmanlike conduct penalty of the night. The Blitz will replace him this weekend with newly signed OL/DL Dan Waldrop, a rookie out of the University of Nebraska. Waldrop, a native of Wilmington, California, stands at 6' 5", 335 pounds and spent four seasons with the Huskers. He was selected a preseason All-Big 12 at offensive tackle in 2002 by collegefootballnews.com and spent two years as a starter.
The Blitz also activated FB/LB Damian Romero from the Long Term Injured Reserve. Romero injured his hand in Week 1 - the last time he played in a game this season. OL/DL Mike Felemi was placed on Short Term IR.
Don't Forget About the Family Four Pack!
Friday's game is also the debut of the Family Four Pack. For the remainder of the season, fans can purchase four Terrace level tickets, four hot dogs, four sodas and four popcorn boxes for just $49 Individually purchased, the pack has a regular value of $74 - passing on a 34% savings to families. To purchase a Family Four Pack, contact the Blitz office at 716-BLITZ (2548).
