Gameday Preview: Storm Host Green Bay Gamblers Tonight at Viaero Center

Kearney, NE. - The Tri-City Storm return home to the Viaero Center in Kearney tonight following three games on the road. The Storm will host the Green Bay Gamblers of the Eastern Conference tonight and tomorrow night at the Viaero Center before playing three games on the road next weekend. Tri-City enters tonight's game after being shutout for only the third time this season last Saturday night at Buccaneer Arena in Urbandale, IA. Tri-City fell 3-0 to Des Moines, and will seek its third straight home win in tonight's game. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.

Tri-City (29-9-1-1) currently holds a four-point lead over Waterloo in the Western Conference standings, and a one-point lead over Muskegon in the USHL league standings. Tri-City has won eight of its last ten home games, and has 16 home wins on the season, the most of any USHL team this year. The Storm have lost seven games in a row against Green Bay, a streak that dates back to the 2014-2015 regular season. The Storm's last win over the Gamblers came in a 4-0 shutout at the Viaero Center nearly five years ago, on October 17th, 2014. Tonight's game will be the 41st of the season for the Storm and the start of the final third of the regular season schedule. Through the team's first 40 games of the year, Tri-City has collected 60 of a possible 80 points in the standings. Tri-City is also three points ahead of the pace set by the 2003-2004 Anderson Cup Championship team for best regular season record in team history. Through 40 games, Tri-City has won 29 games and posted 60 points in the league standings. Through the first 40 games during the 2003-2004 season, Tri-City won 26 games and registered 57 points in the league standings. A win tonight over Green Bay would give the Storm 30 regular season wins for the first time since the 2014-2015 season.

Green Bay (14-18-5-1) enters the weekend three points back of 6th place and the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference standings. The Gamblers are currently 8th place in the Eastern Conference standings, and are 3-5-2-0 over the last ten games. Green Bay has won just one of its last seven road games and will look for its first road win over a Western Conference opponent since a 5-4 Overtime defeat of the Waterloo Black Hawks on October 13th. Green Bay's 111 goals scored this season is 14th best in the league this season, with only Lincoln (109), Omaha (97), and Madison (72) scoring less this season. The Gamblers enter tonight's matchup with the Storm as the 2nd most penalized team in the USHL, with 722 minutes of penalties on the season. This weekend's games will be critical for the Gamblers, who could go from outside the playoffs to above the playoff cut off line with two wins over Tri-City.
