Game Preview: Steelhawks Welcome Beef
May 16, 2012 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Lehigh Valley Steelhawks News Release
Bethlehem, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks kick off the first of a three game home stand this Saturday night against a visiting Omaha Beef squad that will be making the franchise's first visit to the Valley. Still in the playoff hunt, the Steelhawks are now in a three-way tie with the Beef and the Chicago Slaughter for the 4th playoff spot in the United Conference.
The Beef (4-6) are coming off a big home win in a non-divisional game over the Nebraska Danger. QB James McNear had a big game, passing for 6 touchdowns and 200 yards in the game. A strong Steelhawk defense will need to be aware of RB Tory Harrison who leads the Beef statistically in both rushing and receiving categories.
The Steelhawks (4-6) offense had a breakout game last week, putting up 61 points in the loss to Green Bay. The return of several starters who couldn't make the trip last week and a new quarterback should give the offense an exciting new look for this weeks game. Incoming QB Chris Malleo will give the Beef an unexpected new weapon to try and contain. Malleo and RB Ryan Leafey will make for an explosive Steelhawk backfield. WR Irani DeAraujo and Jeff Willis are a dangerous duo at wide outs. Willis and Malleo are familiar playing with one another as both were members of the Reading Express last season.
Kick off will be at 7:05pm this Saturday night. The game will be broadcast on Service Electric TV2 Sports. They will be broadcasting all Steelhawk home games again this season. For those fans that are out of the area and wish to view the game online, please visit www.b2livetv.com and look up the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks under the "TEAMS" Section. Fans unable to watch the games live or on Service Electric can purchase a season viewing pass.
The Steelhawks continue their homestand next week, May 26th as the Reading Express visit the Valley for the 4th and final matchup between the cross-town rivals in the 2012 season. The Steelhawks finish off the season with another home game, against the Green Bay Blizzard, and then are on the road in Chicago for their final regular season game. Tickets for the game are still available and can be purchased by calling the Steelhawks front office at 610-282-3100, via the Steelhawks Website (www.lvsteelhawks.com), or by visiting the Stabler Arena Box Office at 124 Goodman in Bethlehem.
