Charlottetown Islanders News Release
After dominating in the past 4 games of their win streak, the Islanders had to show some perseverance and grit last night. The Isles found themselves trailing for the first time in a game since October 17th against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. Some strong puck presence by Patrick Guay and Patrick LeBlanc's net-front cleanup were able to put the Isles right back in it with the Sea Dogs. It was the captain and Xavier Simoneau who came up big in the third though, Budgell delivered a go-ahead goal in the early minutes of the third before Peter Reynolds tied it up. While Xavier Simoneau scored the game-winner with just under three minutes left to play. Rookie netminder Oliver Satny also recorded his third win of the season stopping 21 of 24 shots.
Now, sights turn to another Maritime foe who hasn't seen regular-season action on the Island in nearly a year. The Moncton Wildcats last played at the Eastlink Centre on November 7th of 2020. The Cats' currently sit with a record of 5-4-0-1 on the season and are coming off a 6-4 victory against the Eagles at the Centre 200 last night. Currently at the helm of Moncton's point race is former Wildcats alumni Ivan Barbashev's younger brother Maxim. Maxim has tallied three goals and seven assists through ten games thus far, a point per game pace for the 17-year-old forward.
Xavier Simoneau has been held off the score sheet only once thus season for the bouts he's been healthy for. After delivering the game-winning goal last night as well as adding an assist, Simoneau was awarded second-star last night in Saint John and has taken the team lead in points over defensemen Noah Laaouan. Simoneau sits with a total of 16 points on the year. Patrick Guay also continued his tear last night, Guay was able to stay with the puck through a hard check and laser his ninth of the season home past Jonathan Lemieux. With the goal, Guay now sits just one behind William Dufour of the Sea Dogs for the league lead in goals.
Jim Hulton will keep the crease rotating tonight as Jacob Goobie will be back between the pipes for this one. Jacob Goobie gets back on the ice this evening after one of the biggest moments in his QMJHL career Thursday night against Gatineau when he recorded his first shutout. Goobie stopped 31 shots en route to the 2-0 victory.
Puck drop is set for 7 pm this evening with doors opening at 6 pm. Tickets are available at the Eastlink Centre Box Office in person (Monday to Friday 11 am to 5 pm) as well as before game time, online, or by phone at 902.629.6625.
