Charlottetown Islanders News Release

After performing incredibly over the stretch of five games, the Isles ran into their first roadblock since playing the Titan on October 17th. The Moncton Wildcats came to Charlottetown after an offensive outburst in Cape Breton and they were able to keep finding the net against the Islanders. After being held scoreless through the first two periods, the Isles, led by veteran Xavier Simoneau's clutch offense and William Trudeau's stellar defensive play, were able to force OT late. Unfortunately for the Isles and fans, the Wildcats refused to let this one slip away with Vincent Labelle netting the game-winner on the first shot of the extra frame. A disappointing note to leave the Eastlink Centre on until they return home against the Cats' again on November 18th. However, collecting eleven out of a possible twelve points in a six-game stretch is still very solid.

Now, the black and harvest gold uniforms will make their first appearance in Quebec in just over twenty months. The Isles last made a Quebec road trip when they went on a three-game circuit playing in Gatineau, Drummondville, and Shawinigan from February 14th-16th, 2020. Charlottetown now goes over in a similar fashion kicking off a five-game road trip with a three-game circuit in Quebec starting off in Drummondville this evening.

The Voltigeurs sit with a mediocre 6-4-2-0 record on the season with their last game being a slim 4-3 victory via shootout over the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. Drummondville is currently lead in points by second-year winger Justin Cote. Cote is currently playing on a point-per-game pace tallying six goals and six assists in twelve appearances. Rookie forward Tyler Peddle has also been a lethal weapon for the Voltigeurs thus far. The 2005 born Antigonish, Nova Scotia native was drafted second overall in the 2021 QMJHL draft and has recorded eight goals in twelve contests, tying him for fifth in the league's goal-scoring race.

On the Islanders side of things, Xavier Simoneau continues putting his number on every score sheet he's had the opportunity to. Simoneau has nineteen points in ten bouts this season, just one point shy of a two-point per game pace on the season. Tonight also marks a special night for Simoneau as he returns to Drummondville where he spent the first four years of his QMJHL career, along with being captain of the Voltigeurs his last two seasons there. Xavier recorded 228 points as a Voltigeurs before being acquired by the Islanders where he has been a key contributor to the success in Charlottetown this season.

Patrick Guay continued his hot streak against Moncton as well when he got the Isles on the board in the third period. Guay has now recorded seven goals in five games, giving him ten total goals on the campaign and putting him in a three-way tie for second in the league's goal race. Noah Laaouan also has his name atop a scoring category in the QMJHL. Laaouan sits in a tie for first with Shawinigan's Xavier Bourgault for the league lead in assists at fourteen. Laaouan recorded his 100th career QMJHL assist at TD Station on October 29th when the Isles beat the Sea Dogs 4-3.

Tonight's matchup between the Isles and Voltigeurs is the Kubota Canada Game of the Week on the CHL TV app, you can download the app and watch the game for free this evening! Puck drop is set for 7:00 pm ET.
