QMJHL Charlottetown Islanders

Game Preview: November 20 vs Acadie-Bathurst

November 20, 2021 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Charlottetown Islanders News Release

Home is where the heart is and boy did the Isles show some heart on Thursday night. After being down 1-0 after twenty minutes to the Moncton Wildcats, the Islanders went on to score six goals in the second period on their way to a 7-3 victory. Now, sights turn to another Maritime rival in the Acadie-Bathurst Titan when they enter the Eastlink Centre this evening for a 7 pm puck drop. To this point on the year, the Isles and Titan have only squared off one other time when the Titan edged out the Islanders 4-3 at the K. C. Irving Regional Centre. Tonight, Charlottetown looks to return the favor and push their win streak up to five games and give fans a fun night of hockey action.

The Titan have cooled off a bit since starting the season off at 5-0-0-0, they now sit at 9-8-0-2 as they seem to bounce from win to lose game by game. Last time out for Bathurst was a 4-3 win yesterday evening when they made the trip over to Moncton to face the Wildcats. Leading the charge for the Titan so far has been third-year forward Riley Kidney. Kidney was taken in the second round 63rd overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. Riley is currently off to the hottest start of his QMJHL career already tieing his career-high in goals at thirteen just nineteen games into the season. Kidney sits with a total of 29 points on the year also holding sixteen assists to his name. This will also be Islanders fans' first look at Washington Capitals first-rounder Hendrix Lapierre this season. Lapierre was recently sent back to the Q and in three games played he's tallied three assists since his return.

Your Charlottetown Islanders have had so much offensive power this season it's hard to highlight just one key player. Leading the team still is 20-year-old workhorse Xavier Simoneau, Simoneau has put up 31 points in just sixteen games as it seems nothing will keep him off the score sheet. Simoneau currently sits in a three-way tie for first in the league in total points at 31, as well as leading the league for assists with 23. Patrick Guay hasn't slowed down either since finding his stride early in the year. Guay is tied for third in the league in the goals scored category and as much as he loves to find the net he has a way of finding his teammates as well. With his eight assists on the year have come some of the most important and nicest dishes we've seen around the league as he makes us all think that he's got eyes in the back of his head ready to find the next setup.

After Jacob Goobie got the start on Thursday night it will be Oliver Satny's turn to take the crease this evening. In seven starts so far in his rookie season Satny has a record of 6-1 also sporting a league second-best 2.14 GAA. With the Titan looking to retake the form they had early in the season and start climbing the standings, Satny is sure to have his work cut out for him tonight as the Isles look to continue their strong defensive presence.

Saturday night is shaping up to be a good one folks make sure you get your tickets early. Tickets are available at the Eastlink Centre Box Office in person (Monday to Friday 11 am to 5 pm) as well as before game time, online, or by phone at 902.629.6625. Make sure to get your tickets early and come on out to help your boys in black and harvest gold protect the bridge.
