Orlando Titans News Release
The New York Titans (3-11) take on the Philadelphia Wings (5-8) on Saturday, April 7th at 7:30pm at Philadelphia's Wachovia Center in National Lacrosse League action.
The Titans return to action after their stunning 11-10 come from behind victory against the Edmonton Rush last Saturday. The Titans battled from behind all game, including overcoming a 5-0 deficit in the first quarter. After Edmonton's Chris Gill seemingly wrapped up the win by scoring a power-play goal with just 41 seconds remaining giving the Rush a 10-9 lead, the Titans rallied with two goals less than ten seconds apart to pull out the win. Mike McLellan scored the game tying goal with 22 seconds left and Jeff Spano scored the game winner with 14 seconds remaining in regulation.
The Titans won the game against the Rush without team captain Casey Powell who missed the game due to injury. Powell's status for this week's game will be re-evaluated by team physician Dr. Craig Levitz.
"Our guys have never quit in a game this season and finally they were rewarded for their efforts," said Titans Head Coach Adam Mueller after the victory. "Ryan Boyle played a very composed game for us and we had a few other players step up score some big goals."
New York Titans forward Mike McLellan was recognized by the league as the NLL Rookie of the Week honors because of his contribution to the Titans victory over the Rush. McLellan scored three goals and added an assist for four points and collected four loose balls in the win.
This Saturday, the Titans will face the Philadelphia Wings for the second time this season. The Titans lost to Philadelphia 16-11 on January 26th. Titans forward Pat Maddalena was the leading scorer for New York during that game, with three goals. Titans' rookies Brendan Mundorf and Mike McLellan each scored two goals. Philadelphia was led by rookie Athan Iannucci of Hofstra who scored five goals and recorded three assists.
"Philly handled us pretty good in the first meeting and I think our guys are looking for redemption," Mueller said about the upcoming game. "Philly has a very strong defense and their offense has not hit a groove in a few games, but their players are very talented."
Currently, Philadelphia is on the hunt for a playoff spot in the East. The Wings are in fifth place in the East and are one game behind the Toronto Rock.
"They are in a playoff chase and have a lot riding on the game; we will get their very best effort in this game," Mueller added.
The Titans-Wings match-up will be the National Lacrosse League Game of the Week to be nationally televised on VERSUS at 12 midnight. The telecast will be replayed on Wednesday, April 11 at 1pm on SportsNet NY. The Titans final game of the 2007 season in Toronto against the Rock on Saturday, April 14 will air on SNY at 11pm EST.
