BUFFALO, N.Y. (April 5, 2007) --The National Lacrosse League announced Wednesday that Buffalo's John Tavares was named Player of the Month for the month of March, while Brett Bucktooth was named Transition Player of the Week for Week 14 of the NLL season.

Tavares recorded 15 goals and 16 assists in four games during March as the team went 4-0 and clinched a berth in the Champion's Cup playoffs. He currently ranks second in the league in scoring with 91 points (40G, 51A) in 13 games. Tavares, the NLL's all-time leader in points and assists, is seven goals shy of breaking the all-time mark of 596 held by Gary Gait.

Bucktooth earned Transition Player of the Week honors after scoring a career-high three goals and adding two assists in Buffalo's playoff-clinching win over Chicago on Saturday. The rookie out of Syracuse University has 20 points on eight goals and 12 assists in eight games this season.

The Weekly and Monthly Player Awards are determined by a vote of the general managers and head coaches of the league's 13 member clubs.
