Edmonton Rush vs Calgary Roughnecks

April 5, 2007 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Edmonton Rush News Release

Edmonton, AB-- It's coming down to the wire in the NLL's West Division with the Edmonton Rush, Calgary Roughnecks and San Jose Stealth all vying for the final two playoff spots.

With three upcoming games against their playoff-race foes, the Rush hold their fate in their own hands. The Rush need to win at least one game this weekend to stay in playoff contention and a sweep of all four remaining games (including April 13 at Portland) would put the Rush into the Champion's Cup derby.

Calgary would clinch a playoff spot by beating the Rush while San Jose would guarantee themselves a berth by winning both of their games this weekend or with the combination of a victory over Edmonton and a Calgary win over the Rush.

The Rush (5-7) play their second of three meetings with the Roughnecks on Friday night at the Saddledome. The two teams will complete their regular-season schedules against each other Saturday, April 14 at Rexall Place in Edmonton.

Calgary (7-6) earned a road win at Edmonton with a 13-12 decision on Jan. 13. Former Roughneck Jason Wulder led the Rush with two goals and four assists while Dan Stroup and Randy Daly each notched five points. Jamey Bowen, Chris Gill and Jimmy Quinlan all had four-point games.

Meanwhile, the Stealth (6-6) have taken care of business against the Rush in two meetings this season. San Jose came from behind to win 11-9 in Edmonton on March 2 and then the Stealth captured a 14-7 win two weeks ago on home turf.

The Rush are coming off a split on a weekend road trip into the NLL's East Division. With a late rally, the New York Titans topped the Rush 11-10 last Saturday, but a day later, the Rush rebounded to take an 8-6 decision from the Chicago Shamrox.

A.J. Shannon made his debut with the Rush last weekend and scored his first goal of the year against Titans before adding an assist in Chicago. Shannon missed all of training camp and the first 10 games of the season while recovering from major knee surgery.

Chris Gill, another onetime Roughneck, leads the Rush with 27 goals, including a team-high 12 on the power play, and 48 points. Quinlan has moved into second in team scoring with 39 points with Stroup right behind at 38.

Daly, who leads in the team with 24 assists and 59 loose balls, is out of the Rush lineup due to a sprained ankle.
