May 20, 2011 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
West Texas Roughnecks News Release
MIDLAND, TX. : The West Texas Roughnecks continue their recent home stretch as they host the Wichita Wild on Saturday, May 21 at the Ector County Coliseum. The Roughnecks (7-3) are coming off a 54-26 loss to the Allen Wranglers back on Saturday, May 14. The Roughnecks currently enter this weekend a half-game back of the Allen Wranglers in the Lone Star Division with four games remaining in the 2011 regular season schedule. Saturday's match-up between the Roughnecks and the Wild (3-7) marks the second meeting between both teams in 2011 as the Roughnecks won the first match-up back on April 1 by the score of 54-47 in Park City, Kansas.
The Roughnecks defensive unit will look to have a bounce-back performance this Saturday after allowing 54 points to Allen last week, including 41 points in the first-half. In their previous match-up with Wichita, the Roughnecks defense made several key plays in the second-half to help get the win including a recorded safety and several stops on fourth down. The Roughnecks secondary will have to contend with a strong core of Wichita receivers including Clinton Solomon who recorded 72 yards receiving and three touchdowns in the last meeting. The Roughnecks will also have to contend with a new Wichita starting quarterback in Phil Staback who is coming off a two-touchdown performance in Wichita's 48-44 loss to the Omaha Beef last week. Look for Roughnecks defensive linemen Jeramie Richardson and Jermaine Blakely to be key factors in terms of pressuring Staback up front, but the Roughnecks defense will have to also focus on Wild RB Darius Fudge who has 176 rushing yards and seven touchdowns this season.
Offensively, Roughnecks starting QB Arkelon Hall will miss this week's meeting against Wichita after leaving last Saturday's game early with a knee injury. WR/QB Josh Floyd filled in for Hall and managed to record three total touchdowns including two touchdown passes to wide out Tim Bush in the second-half against Allen. The Roughnecks recently acquired former Prairie View A&M QB K.J. Black this week, therefore look for Roughnecks wide out Wilson Kimble to be a key factor in the Roughnecks passing attack as he posted 70 yards receiving and two touchdowns in the last meeting against Wichita. One of the more important keys for the Roughnecks offense on Saturday will be the running game. Roughnecks running backs Evin Jones & DeWayne Hogan combined to run for 71 yards and three touchdowns against Wichita back on April 1 with most of the production coming in the second-half. Look for kick returners Randy Kelly (Wichita) and Josh Floyd (West Texas) to play important roles on special teams especially in terms of field positioning on Saturday.
