Amarillo Venom News Release
Amarillo, TX 5/20/11 - The Amarillo Venom will travel to Allen this weekend to take on the Wranglers Saturday, May 21st. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and can be watched on the B2 Network under the media tab on the Venom's Web site www.govenom.com.
The Wranglers are coming off of a 54-26 road win at West Texas while the Venom look to build on last week's 50-35 home win against the Bricktown Brawlers.
"Last week was a good win for us," said Julian Reese, the Venom's head coach. "We need to build on that game and take another step forward against Allen."
Newly acquired quarterback Sherard Ellis played a big roll in the Venom's win last week against the Brawlers as he threw for 153 yards, completing 7 of 14 passes, two of which were touchdowns. More importantly Ellis took care of the football and didn't throw an interception.
"Sherard did a great job of managing the game and taking care of the football," said Coach Reese. "Seeing how he only had a day or two to prepare for Bricktown, I was pleased with his performance."
Ellis didn't get the start last week against the Bralwers, but replaced starter Derek Rasmussen early in the game. After his performance last week, Ellis has been named the starter against Allen.
The Venom defense came to play last week as well as they forced a season-high four turnovers, three interceptions and a fumble. Turnovers will be key in the battle against Allen as well, as Allen has won the turnover battle in the teams' previous two meetings.
