April 7, 2011 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
West Texas Roughnecks News Release
MIDLAND, TX. : The West Texas Roughnecks (4-1) continue their road stretch as they return to Allen, Texas to face the Allen Wranglers (3-2) for the second time in the 2011 regular season. The Roughnecks won the first meeting over Allen back on February 28 by the score of 60-46 as QB Arkelon Hall threw for three scores in the win, and wide out Josh Floyd led the way in receiving and posted a kickoff return for a touchdown. Recently the Roughnecks picked up an important road win over the Wichita Wild back on April 1, 54-47. In what was very much a back-and-forth battle the Roughnecks offensive unit played consistently well as Arkelon Hall recorded five total touchdowns, and the Roughnecks defense came away with a safety and two critical stops on fourth down late in the fourth quarter to help secure the win.
The Roughnecks offense will look to build off of their performance against the Wild as they face an Allen defensive unit that surrendered 203 total yards to the Roughnecks in the first match-up, including three touchdown runs for RB Evin Jones. Jones also added 49 yards on the ground and two second-half touchdown runs in the win over Wichita. Roughnecks wide out Josh Floyd will be an important target for Arkelon Hall in the passing game, but the receiving unit as a whole has been playing well as of late as both Wilson Kimble and Tim Bush combined for four receiving touchdowns last week against Wichita.
The Roughnecks defensive unit made important stops in the second-half in the win over Wichita and they face a Wranglers offense that committed three turnovers in the previous match-up, including two interceptions by DB Derrick Boyd. The Roughnecks defensive line featuring Ronnie Mason and Jeramie Richardson will play a key role in this match-up in providing pressure as the unit will face a different starting quarterback this time around in Kewan Dewberry. Dewberry has helped the Wranglers win three out of their last four games, including a 52-51 win over the Amarillo Venom last week.
The Roughnecks secondary will be tested by wide outs Dedrick Poole and Bobby Chase as both posted touchdown receptions in the previous meeting against the Roughnecks. Early turnovers played a major factor in the first meeting between both teams and it will be an essential factor in the second match-up on Friday evening. Look for special teams play to be a key factor especially in the second-half as well as execution inside the red-zone.
