Reading Express Take On Richmond Revolution
April 7, 2011 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Reading Express News Release
Reading, Pa. (April 7, 2011) - The Reading Express indoor professional football team embarks this weekend on the first of three straight away games, as the Express head south to take on the division rival Richmond Revolution this Saturday night. The kick-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. at the SportsQuest complex in Chester County.
This weekend's game will be the first time the Express and Revolution have ever played each other. Saturday night's contest is going to be slightly different for the Express as it will be played outdoors. The Revolution are currently playing their games outdoors using indoor rules while their new arena is being built. Hopefully the weather will hold up, and the change from indoors to outdoors will not play a major factor in the outcome of the game.
The only indication of how the game could pan out might be each team's results against the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks. The Express got the best of the Steelhawks in both games the teams have played so far this season, while the Revolution and Steelhawks split a home-and-home set in March.
The Express beat the Steelhawks 63-58 last Friday night in a shootout that came down to the wire. Meanwhile the Revolution suffered a decisive 67-47 loss to the Green Bay Blizzard in Green Bay this past weekend.
Offensively, the Express head into this week's game with some impressive numbers. Reading is averaging 39.2 points per game, 127.8 passing yards, about 16 passing completions, and has 18 total passing touchdowns on the season. Last Friday's game was another notable offensive showing for the Express.
Express QB Chris Malleo finished last Friday's game 18 for 29 passing for 178 yards and five touchdowns, three of which were in the first 15 minutes of the game. The breakout player, though, was RB Elliott White. White will surely factor into the Revolution's game plan after returning ten kicks for 212 yards and a TD. White added two rushing touchdowns on 74 total rushing yards and caught a ten-yard pass for another score.
On defense, the Express put in a strong effort, posting with four sacks and three interceptions. Reading's defense is averaging 40.2 points against, while giving up 247.8 yards per game on the season with 238 tackles and nine sacks registered.
As for the Revolution, the team is averaging 30.6 points per game, 82 passing yards, and nearly 11 passing completions, with 13 total passing touchdowns. On the defensive side, the team averages 43.8 points against, while giving up 241.4 yards per game. The team has recorded only 182 tackles and one sack.
The division-leading Express, at 3-2, are the favorites this weekend. The team hopes to extend its division lead over the Revolution, who currently sit at 1-4. Meanwhile, the 1-3 Steelhawks host the 4-1 Bloomington Extreme on Saturday.
After Saturday night's game in Richmond, the Express will have two more away stops in Green Bay and the Lehigh Valley before returning home for an April 30 game against the Revolution.
The Reading Express are one of the most established franchises in indoor football. In five seasons, the team has amassed an overall record of 64-20 with four playoff appearances, two conference titles and the 2009 AIFA National Championship. In 2011, Reading begins play as a new member of the Indoor Football League. The team plays on The Reading Hospital Medical Group Field at Sovereign Center in Reading, Pa.
