The Lead Up: Pats end slide Thursday against Brandon

The Regina Pats snapped their five game losing streak with a 5-4 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings on Thursday night at the Brandt Centre. The Wheat Kings scored the game's first two goals to lead 2-0 early in the second period. However the Pats responded with three goals in a 2:23 span to take the lead. First, Logan Nijhoff scored his second in as many games, Cale Fleury got his eighth on the powerplay and then Bryan Lockner tipped home his fifth and it was 3-2 Regina. Brandon tied it up midway through the second but Nick Henry restored the lead with his fifth and it was 4-3 after 40 minutes. In the third, Brandon again drew even at the nine minute mark but Regina responded thanks to Matt Bradley who put in a rebound for his 23rd with just over six minutes left and the Pats held on from there for the 5-4 win.

Head to Head

Tonight is the second of eight meetings between the Pats and Raiders with Regina taking the first matchup, 2-1 in overtime in October. Matt Bradley had two assists in the win for Regina, Josh Mahura and Emil Oksanen scored the goals while Tyler Brown made 25 saves. Spencer Moe had the lone tally for Prince Albert and goaltender Curtis Meger made 31 saves. The Pats enter Saturday four points up on the Raiders for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Pats defenceman Cale Fleury reached the 100 point plateau for his WHL career on Thursday night. The Montreal Canadiens prospect scored his eighth goal of the season in the second period to reach the milestone. Fleury has played in 235 WHL games between the Kootenay ICE and the Pats, scoring 28 goals and adding 72 assists.
