Game Day Preview: KGN vs HAM

January 16, 2022 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) - Kingston Frontenacs News Release

This afternoon, the Kingston Frontenacs (17-7-3-0) are on the road to face the Hamilton Bulldogs (17-9-2-2) in a battle for first place atop the East Division. The Bulldogs have a one-point lead over the Black and Gold, with Kingston playing three fewer games and holding a higher winning percentage. Frontenacs Head Coach, Luca Caputi's group looks to improve on an impressive 8-1-1-0 record away from Leon's Centre (lowest total losses on the road in the OHL), as they play the first of two, with a date in Oshawa on Tuesday night.

Kingston was defeated 8-4 on Friday night in the Limestone City and has lost two straight entering today's action. Rookie Jackson Stewart scored his first career OHL goal in the loss and newcomer Alec Belanger, acquired from the Ottawa 67's at the trade deadline potted his first as a Frontenac. The four goals marked the first time Kingston hadn't score five in nine games.

The Fronts have won both meetings against the Bulldog so far this season, including a 6-5 win in the last matchup on December 10th. The Fronts also won in a 5-4 shootout on November 27th in Hamilton. Kingston's leading scorer Lucas Edmonds was the first star, collecting four points (2G,2A), and second star Jordan Frasca had three points (1G,2A) in the win. Edmonds has seven points (4G,3A) in the two games versus the Bulldogs.

Forward Francesco Arcuri registered his fifth game-winning goal during the last match between the East Division rivals, tied for third in OHL in that category. He has five points (1G,4A) versus Hamilton this season. The Dallas Stars prospect has doubled his goal output (14) from his rookie season in just 25 games and is 18th overall in the league plus/minus (+14), third on Kingston.

Know Your Enemy

The Bulldogs won 6-2 in the team's previous game on January 11th over Niagara, continuing a seesaw stretch in their last six games with a win followed by a loss. They are looking for consecutive wins for the first time since December 5th to 8th. Newcomer Mason McTavish scored in his Bulldogs debut against Niagara after being acquired from the Peterborough Petes. Hamilton, like Kingston, is deep offensively, led by Logan Morrison sitting tied for 8th in OHL scoring (48) and enters today's action on a seven-game goal streak. Kingston will need to defend an active blueline. Defenceman Nathan Staois leads all OHL blueliners with 30 points, joined by Gavin White (23) and Arber Xhekaj (18) in the top-20.
