The Firebirds scored 9 minutes later to take a 2-0 lead. However, the two goal lead lasted only 41 seconds as Christopoulos scored his 4th on the season from Miedema to cut the lead in half. Just over a minute and a half later Maggio buried hi 15th on the season from Cuylle and Johnston on the powerplay to tie the game at 2 headed into the intermission. The shots were 13-7 in favour of Windsor through the first 20 minutes.
In the second frame, the Spitfires got down again, this time just 16 seconds into the period. It took the Spitfires 10 and a half minutes to tie it on the powerplay. A sweet feed from Johnston to Cuylle who slipped it through his legs to Zito on the backdoor who made no mistake tying the game at 3. After 40 minutes nobody could break the deadlock and the Spitfires had the lead in shots 23-18.
In the third period it was all Spitfires. Zito scored just under two minutes into the period for his 2nd of the night on a rocket shot from the slot that found twine. Just over three minutes later, Maggio found himself in the slot and ripped home an insurance goal for the Spits. Late in the third, O'Flaherty capitalized on a point shot that deflected in front of the net to his stick for the open cage goal to put the Spitfires up 6-3. Newcomers Perrott and Currie had assists on the goal.
