Game Day Preview: Blades Open Rivalry Weekend in Prince Albert

March 16, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release

Tonight - The Saskatoon Blades open up a home & home series with the Prince Albert Raiders to close out the regular season schedule. Despite being eliminated from the playoffs, the Blades will look to finish strong against their biggest rivals... especially since the Blades have more wins than the Raiders but trail them in the standings.

Head to head - The Blades are 4-1-1-0 against the Raiders this season, but lost 5-2 in their last trip to PA back on Feb. 2nd. Saskatoon's power play has been strong against PA going 4/16 in 6 meetings. No surprise, Braylon Shmyr has drove the offense with 12 points against the Raiders this season... Parker Kelly is the player to watch on the other side with 6 goals in as many tilts with the Blades.

The opponent - The Raiders are the hottest team in the WHL right now, coming into tonight's game 9-0-0-2 in their last 11 games. However, both of those shootout losses came this week in their last 2 games. The Raiders will also try to empty the tank in hopes of catching Brandon for the first wild-card spot to force a tie-breaker game and potentially cross over to the weaker Central Division.

For Saskatoon - After being eliminated the Blades played loose on Wednesday night in Swift Current defeating the Broncos 5-2. Rookie Kirby Dach registered his second 4-point game of his career while veteran backstop Tyler Brown made 42 saves in the win. The veterans will be looking to go out on a high note while the youth of the group will try to make an impression for the future.
