Wheat Kings Set for Final Regular Season Weekend
March 16, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, MB. - The Brandon Wheat Kings close out their 2017-18 Western Hockey League regular season this weekend.
The Wheat Kings, who have won four straight games on home ice, will be in Moose Jaw tonight before traveling home to host the Warriors on Saturday.
While Brandon has already punched its ticket to the WHL playoffs - for the fifth straight year - the Wheat Kings first round opponent has yet to be determined.
The Wheat Kings enter the weekend with a record of 38-27-3-2, good for 81 points and the first wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.
Should Brandon be in that position when the curtain goes down on the regular season on Saturday, the Wheat Kings will face off against the Medicine Hat Tigers in round one.
However, should the Wheat Kings close out the year with back to back wins over Moose Jaw and Regina fails to beat Swift Current in their weekend home and home series, Brandon would vault into third place in the Eastern Division and earn an opening round playoff date with the Broncos.
In any case, the WHL playoffs will begin on Friday, March 23rd, with the Wheat Kings scheduled to host games three and four of the best of seven series on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 27th and 28th.
Due to the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair occupying the Keystone Centre from March 26th to April 2nd, the Wheat Kings will again be forced their first round home games in Dauphin.
Tickets to both playoff games in Dauphin are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling (204) 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com
Meanwhile ticket sales have been brisk for Brandon's final regular season home game - Saturday night vs Moose Jaw - presented by the Victoria Inn.
Over 4,000 tickets have already been sold for the game, which will feature the club's annual Awards Night at Westoba Place.
Trophies will be handed out before, during and immediately after the game. Among them - the Meighen Haddad Most Valuable Player, the MNP Rookie of the Year, the Brandon Sun Scoring Award as well as the Brad McCrimmon Top Defenceman honours.
Game time Saturday is 7:30pm but fans are encouraged to come early and stay late as the Wheat Kings will also unveil their new 2017-18 Highlights video.
