Shifting Scenery

Welcome back to the VMC for the Western Conference Championship series! Portland and Prince George split a pair of fantastic games at the CN Centre last weekend and now arrive in the Rose City for three straight games. It's a pivotal stretch in the series - after taking Game 2, the Winterhawks now own home-ice advantage in the series, meaning they currently only need to win at home in order to advance. So wear your red, bring the noise tonight and help the boys take another massive W!

Striking First

The Winterhawks found a way through Josh Ravensbergen in Game 2 after being held scoreless in the opener, posting four goals and an empty-netter against Prince George's star netminder en route to a key victory. Having now established their offensive game, the Hawks will be keen to score first for the first time this series as they open up their home-ice slate. Portland is at its best when playing with a lead and swarming for more - look for a fast start from the hosts as they seek a series lead in Game 3.

Catching Some Z's

Several players stepped up in Portland's Game 2 win, with Nate Danielson bagging three assists, Jack O'Brien and James Stefan netting key go-ahead goals and many more Hawks posting standout showings. In particular, the line of Chyzowski, Buttazzoni and Zakreski rose to the occasion in several key moments with five points between them.

Chyzowski bagged the opening goal for Portland - an important one after being shut out in Game 1 - and has found twine in six of his last seven contests and leads the team with eight goals in the postseason. Buttazzoni's third-period strike - his first goal of the playoffs - loomed large as the eventual deciding tally in the 5-3 win, and Zakreski's two assists on each of those goals marked his second multi-point performance of the postseason. The Hawks have relied on a four-lines-deep attack throughout this season, with each skater capable of stepping up in key moments like that trio did in Game 2. That depth will once again be key to success in Game 3.
