Rolling Momentum
What a start for the Winterhawks! Thanks to a stellar third-period comeback effort, Portland took care of business in Game 1 with a 4-3 win over Victoria last night. It was playoff hockey at its finest; goals galore, electric energy from the fans and plenty of physicality set the stage for what should be a thrilling rematch fewer than 24 hours later.
No time to dwell on the successes and failures from Friday - both teams go right back into the fray in a pivotal contest before the series shifts to the island for Games 3-5. A Royals win tonight gives them significant momentum before a rare three-game playoff homestand, while another Winterhawks victory ensures at least one more playoff home game here in the Rose City. Should be another classic!
Cagnoni's Cookin'
The San Jose Sharks prospect was in fine form in Game 1 with two goals to pace Portland's victory. One of four Winterhawks with multiple points in last night's tilt, Cagnoni matched his goalscoring output from each of the last two postseasons in one night and tallied the game-winner in the third period.
Toyota Fan Fest
The best way to celebrate the start of playoffs is at the Toyota Fan Fest on the VMC Commons this afternoon! Beginning at 3:00, you can welcome the team to the arena with fist bumps and high fives, then enjoy some family-friendly activities while you grab some delicious local bites and brews from food trucks and our beer garden. Be sure to swing by the Inkbus mobile tattoo shop - Hawks fans who get a Winterhawks tattoo will receive a playoff ticket voucher for tonight's game (or a future home playoff game)!
