Green Bay Gamblers News Release
(Green Bay, WI) The Green Bay Gamblers are pleased to announce David Carle has been named to the team's coaching staff. Carle spent the past four years serving as a student assistant coach at the University of Denver where he was recruited by now Gamblers coach Derek Lalonde. His responsibilities will include game analysis, video breakdown, recruiting and working with the team's defensemen.
"I'm excited to have the opportunity to hire David Carle," said Gamblers head coach Derek Lalonde. "David has a great hockey mind and will bring a lot to our organization as an assistant coach and as an individual because of his approach to the game and his character. He's a special kid."
Carle was a standout defenseman at Shattuck-St. Mary's Prep School in Faribault, Minnesota. The Anchorage, Alaska native helped guide the Sabres to national championships in 2007 and 2008. Carle was selected in the 7th round (203rd overall) by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
Unfortunately, before his collegiate career ever began, Carle was forced to retire from hockey in the summer of 2008 when he was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Denver honored his scholarship and kept him on as a student assistant.
Carle, the brother of Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Matt Carle, also served as the video coordinator for the gold-medal USA Under-17 Team at the 2011 Five Nations Tournament in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Carle will officially begin his duties on June 1.
