
Galt Commits to Nebraska-Omaha

Urbandale (IA) The Des Moines Buccaneers are proud to announce that forward Ryan Galt has committed to his hometown University of Nebraska-Omaha hockey program for his collegiate career. Galt is expected to join the UNO Mavericks for 2014-2015 and is the 10th current Buccaneer player to have made a collegiate commitment.
"This a wonderful accomplishment for Ryan and the entire organization is proud of him" commented Bucs' head coach Jon Rogger. "Ryan represents what our goals are as he has improved continually since coming to us and that hard work has been rewarded."
The Omaha native is in his second season with the Buccaneers and netted a hat trick in the team's season opener September 21st vs. Sioux Falls. In 59 career games over two seasons, Galt has 29 points (18 goals, 11 assists). He had a standout rookie season in 2012-2013, scoring 15 goals and was named the team's "Most Improved Player" by the coaching staff.
Galt came to the Buccaneers following two seasons with the Russell Stover midget program in Kansas City.
Nebraska-Omaha is a member of the new National Collegiate Hockey Conference which is a combination of many former WCHA and CCHA programs. The Mavericks are led by head coach Dean Blais who is in his fifth season after a lengthy career as the head coach at North Dakota and a year behind the bench for the USHL's Fargo Force.
The Des Moines Buccaneers (0-2-0) are on the road Friday night at Lincoln before a home game Saturday night against Tri-City at 7:05pm. Saturday night is the first Miller Lite Buc Beer Night of the season with $1 12oz Miller Lite's on sale for all guests 21 and over.
The Des Moines Buccaneers are in their 34th consecutive season in the United States Hockey League. Since 1980, the Buccaneers have produced hundreds of NCAA Division I players and dozens of professional alumni.
