Vancouver Giants News Release
The Vancouver Giants got back on the winning track Tuesday night, defeating the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-2 at the Showare Center in Kent, Washington. Brendan Gallagher had 4 points, including a hat trick to move into 2nd place on the Giants all-time scoring list.
The Giants came out gunning in the opening period, outshooting the Thunderbirds 16-2. Brendan Gallagher scored the lone goal of the period, potting his 12th goal of the season to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
The Thunderbirds were a different team in the second period and immediately put the pressure on Vancouver, eventually getting the equalizer 4:51 in to tie the game at 1-1. The turning point of the game came just past the midway point of the frame as Burke Gallimore hit the crossbar on a breakaway; the Giants quickly went the other way and Gallagher beat Calvin Pickard for his 2nd of the night and 14th of the season to make it a 2-1 game. Gallagher wasn't done there, he converted a Marek Tvrdon feed on the power play for the hat trick and 3-1 Giants lead through 40 minutes.
Third period penalties were an issue again for Vancouver. With two Giants in the box the Thunderbirds would beat Adam Morrison to cut the lead to 3-2. However, that is as close as they would come. Tvrdon added an empty net power play goal with one second left to ice the game, giving the Giants a 4-2 victory. Vancouver has now won 5 of their last 6 games. The Giants outshot the Thunderbirds 50-23. Morrison made 21 saves, while Pickard stopped 46 shots in the Seattle net. The Giants finished 2-for-6 on the power play, while the Thunderbirds went 1-for-5.
With his first point of the night, Brendan Gallagher moved into 2nd place on the Giants all-time scoring list. He now has 226 career points and only trails Adam Courchaine, who has 273 points.
The Giants are back in action Friday for the first of back to back games in Victoria vs. the Royals. Game time is 7:05 pm. The pregame show begins at 6:30 pm on AM 650.
